SASHAA Released the “Single” Fiya, and now you can enjoy it live on April 25th
1. How did the concept behind the Fiya single came about?
Fiya embodies an empowering metaphor. As an anthem for all, Fiya artistically navigates the journey of ones radiant destiny. One being the listener can defy their adversities in life and shine and resonate their purposeful light in the world. Fiya is for any assiduous dreamer. My inspiration derives from my personal life experience and motto I live by.
2. You’ve said that creating the Mezanmi music video was a big highlight. Can you bring us back to the moment?
I was the creative director, casting assistant and producer behind my music video. I really enjoyed having the control of creating my vision the joys of being an Indie artist. I also chose to record in my hometown of Miami as well as cast my family and friends. It was work but extremely fun creating with everyone, we created memories that will last forever. As my first video I definitely set hit expectations for myself, I wanted to challenge myself and push to my farthest potential. I look forward to self directing my next music video which will be filmed at a studio in Downtown Los Angeles. I’m going to continue setting the bar for myself every time so I’ll be bringing it to another level (drones, dancers, lights) the whole 9 yard.
3. “Fiya” is one of our favorite songs. What’s your relationship with the producer behind it?
Fiya couldn’t have been done without my favorite producer Johnathan Jean Louis and my old friend at Madiac Productions and also big shoutout to Haiki for the studio time. Every artist has a team behind them and I appreciate every talented individual I collaborate with. My relationship with everyone apart of Fiya is super chill kind always love.
4. Who are some of the USA Artists and producers we should be excited about?
I work with many talented people such as Rebecca Zama for example who is the featured artist on my song Mezanmi. She is a Haitian Superstar I love her that’s my girl.
5. How does being a female in a male dominated industry affect your art?
I think the genre of Pop specifically is the industry I’m focusing on right now is female dominated actually. Is say Hip Hop/Rap is male dominated for sure. I’m happy to look up to legends like Rihanna Beyoncé Brandy Lizzo Jennifer Hudson Jennifer Lopez just to name a few who have been breaking these barriers for women in music. I’m inspired and ready to continue pushing that agenda. It’s a lot about challenging the narrative since we live in a world where women and men aren’t equal As they should be. I’m a proud Feminist
6. What do your parents think?
My parents are so supportive I absolutely love them and love that. My parents are Haitian immigrants. My culture is very conservative and strict and education is super important so growing up I felt my future was trying to be controlled so I’m super happy they accepted my route in life. The word will be getting a taste of my parents on my Ep coming soon .
7. At what point while you were producing did you decide you want to sing?
I have always been a singer. I have singing since I was 2 years old. As I transitioned to professionally recording I began to get involve in the production of my music. I am currently investing in equipment and software to build my own home studio and self teach myself production and music engineering.
8. What do you hope your legacy will be?
I hope I leave my cultures legacy behind. I’m Haitian and my country is the first black nation, the first free Black Country with the first successful slave rebellion. That’s a big deal and a lot of people don’t understand or filled with misconceptions about us. My music is Kompa infused in addition to pop which is my native country’s sound. I want to share my country with the world I am the voice of my people.
9. You have the Sashaa live experience coming this month. What can the fans expect?
